A List of Things I Plan on Accomplishing in My Year in Maastricht

I’ve never needed an excuse to write lists. I even have a notebook for them- a notebook emblazoned with the logo of the initiative I used to work for while in college to remind me to take things seriously.

Nothing says serious like academic integrity and business ethics

And now that my countdown to the great big adventure is in the single digits, my obsession  fondness for list writing is growing. At the very moment, I have about three being constantly updated, because even when I go to sleep at about 4 am everyday, I’m thinking of what I need to pack, what I want to fulfill in my year abroad, and what songs I would want to listen to on my 6 hour flight.

Of all three, the one I most care for is the accomplishments. Yes, never mind the packing, I can always buy the stuff I will eventually forget from Maastricht.

And so, I wrote them down, unsure if there’s more I want to do or how silly they may sound or if I am going to ever get around to doing all of them, but writing things down just makes it all sound so official.

And here they are:

  1. Make the most out of the year, even if means not coming back to Beirut for Christmas.
  2. Excel at the program I’m enrolled in because it is the main reason I’m going abroad.
  3. Find a balance between studying, having fun, and socializing.
  4. Adopt a healthier lifestyle that involves some sort of physical activity every day.
  5. Learn to ride a bicycle after ten years of not having been near one.
Then again, going to the hospital is not part of my plan
  6. Blog consistently and become a better writer because I still have not given up on my childhood dream.
  7. Meet people from all sorts of different walks of life and learn from them.
  8. Resist homesickness as much as possible.
  9. Visit Paris, Brussels, and Amsterdam and get lost while walking around- because it’s those moments that make for awesome stories.
  10. Become more self-reliant (something that will begin the moment my family drops my off at the airport a few days from today)
  11. Learn basic Dutch and any other language that I might pick up especially thanks to point 7.
  12. Come back to Beirut with plenty of stories to tell.

They’re not much, I know. Which is why if you feel I should add something, please tell me. Like point 1 states, I plan on making the most out of the year. Also this list should totally be 13 points, 13 being my lucky number and all.

You better help me with number 5 otherwise I will ask for the Kingdom of the Netherlands to denounce you as a citizen- being that you can’t prove you can ride a bike 😛
As for number 9, like I told Simas on FB, it would not be complete without awesome company 😀

    1. TK says:

I thought number 13 was getting over my phobia of skinny jeans 😛
But thank you so much! I plan on doing just that 😀 And your comments mean a lot (even though for some reason I can’t recognize who you are!)

  5. Koosa Me7she says:

Well that’s the point 🙂 Let my previous number 13 be your new number 14, you should get over your phobia of your skinny jeans. By the way tala we need to have a heart-to-heart talk about this :$

    1. TK says:

When they make skinny jeans my size, I’ll get over the phobia:P But if number 4 goes well, then maybe it will eventually happen 😛
I’m up for a heart-to-heart any time before I leave but seriously, who are you? 😛

      1. Koosa Me7she says:

Then I wish you’d really have the best of luck with your number 4, it has done wonders for me, and instead of waiting for them to make skinny jeans your size, why don’t you battle your way to them? 😀 I had an incident like yours the other day trying on a pair of skinny jeans myself, took 3 girls to get it unbuttoned :$ :$
